Building a Healthier Bedford Together

A unique event at The Quarry on September 25
Food etc warmly invites you to a unique gathering to explore how, together, we can support individuals and families across Bedford who are experiencing food poverty and insecurity and the pressures that brings.
We’ve all been haunted by images of hungry children from around the world. But the children we work with don’t live thousands of miles away. They live in Bedford. And they are not getting the food they need.
At Food etc our mission is to make sure children aren’t hungry or malnourished. Not just today or tomorrow, but for good, because we’re addressing the problem at its root, and need your help to make that fix permanent. Latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions show 5,711 Bedford children aged under 16 are living in relative poverty of which 1,499 are below school age.
Food is never just about hunger. It’s about dignity, health, connection, and opportunity. At Food etc we empower people to make better food choices by teaching them how to cook low-cost, healthy meals from scratch. This builds confidence, skills and long-term wellbeing. Across Bedford, where many families are struggling, this support has a real impact both on their physical and mental health and also their finances.
We work closely with schools, community groups and local services to deliver practical, people-centred support. But we can’t do it alone. This event is for anyone who wants to be part of something meaningful in our town to explore how we might work together.
This event is ideal for:
– Local businesses interested in community impact or CSR
-Potential funders or sponsors looking to support local work
-People or organisations with volunteering capacity
-Schools, charities, or community groups who could benefit from food support
-Anyone curious about how food can change lives in Bedford
What to expect:
-A short introduction to our work in Bedford
-Real stories from the communities we support
-Opportunities to connect with others who care
-Light refreshments in a relaxed, welcoming space
Come and see how your organisation, big or small, or you as an individual can help build a healthier, stronger Bedford, one meal, one conversation, one collaboration at a time.
It’s at The Quarry Theatre, 26 St Peter’s Street, Bedford, MK40 2NN from 6.30pm to 8.00pm on Thursday 25th September. There is plenty of parking in St Peter’s Street car park less than 5 minutes’ walk away.
