- Time together uninterrupted by other people or phones
- Improving confidence through learning new skills
- Encouraging adults and children to try new foods and activities increases their willingness to try other things together that they wouldn’t usually
- Bringing in hard-to-reach people. For example, schools have told us that some parents who have attended our courses with their children have not previously engaged in other ways
- Increasing family cohesion
- Better behaviour and study results from better-fed children

Meet Scott
Tell us a little about yourself
Hello, my name is Scott. I live in Bedfordshire with my wife and our little dog Ada.
Why did you decide to volunteer with Food etc?
I decided to volunteer for Food etc to share my passion for cooking and get more involved in the local community.
What do you enjoy most about working with Food etc?
I love being able to make and share yummy and nutritious food with the families and young people who come to our sessions. I also love encouraging people to try new foods they haven’t had before.
What would you say to someone considering to volunteer with Food etc?
Every session with Food etc is different and there is never a dull day. Sharing my free time is so rewarding and I would encourage anyone considering volunteering to give it a go.
What is your healthy go-to meal?
My favourite go-to healthy meal is a homemade chicken noodle soup. It’s fresh, comforting, and packed with vegetables.
