Healthy chicken gyros with tzatziki

Makes 4 

  • 1 red chilli
  • 1 iceberg lettuce
  • 5 tsp dried oregano
  • 5 tomatoes
  • Small bunch of mint
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cucumber
  • 3 tbsp natural yoghurt
  • 4 pittas
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 8 chicken thighs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Olive oil


  1. Dice the chicken into small chunks and add to a bowl. Grate the cloves of garlic and red chilli, 3 tsps of oregano and the zest of a lemon, 4 tsps yoghurt, salt and pepper into the bowl
  2. Rub together and cover with cling film. Leave in fridge for 15 minutes.
  3. For the tzatziki: pour the rest of the yoghurt into another bowl. Add a small bunch of finely chopped mint, the juice of the lemon, and grated cucumber. Season well and mix it all together.
  4. For the tomato salsa: finely chop your tomatoes. Add to a bowl with 2 tsps of oregano, salt, pepper and olive oil.
  5. Finely chop the lettuce.
  6. Put a griddle pan on a medium to high heat. Once it is hot, add your chicken. It needs 3 minutes on each side.
  7. Warm some pittas in a toaster or frying pan on a low heat and assemble the gyros.
