Slow cooker apple crumble
Ingredients
Serves 3 to 4
- 4 large apples, chopped with skins on
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon plain flour
- 100g quick cook oats
- 60g plain flour
- 50g brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- 80g butter
Step by step
- Grease your slow cooker with butter or spray oil and preheat for 10 mins.
- Put chopped apples, cinnamon and flour into slow cooker and stir together.
- In a medium sized bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar and baking powder.
- Melt butter, using 20 second bursts in microwave – time depends on starting temperature of butter. Alternatively melt in a pan. Add melted butter to dry mix and mix well.
- Spread mixture over the apples.
- Cook on High for 2-3 hours, or Low for 5-6 hours until oats is fully cooked and apples are tender.
You can try adding dried fruit in with the apples (eg, cranberries, dates, sultanas) or exchange the apples for pears. You could also add some grated orange peel, or extra spices such as nutmeg or ginger and/or nuts to the topping. Once you are happy with the basic recipe, why not experiment?
